Cabbage is not the most popular vegetable. On the contrary it chases away both children and adults and it is rarely consumed in the United States of America. Europeans however eat a lot of cabbage especially during weigh-loss diets. Eating cabbage health effects are numerous although people may not enjoy the strange cabbage taste and smell.

Cabbage is a leafy green vegetable and it belongs to the Brassica oleracea Linne family.It is a crowded mass of green leaves, sometimes even red, forming a globular cluster.

Cabbage is derived from a leafy plant called wild mustard, which grew in the Mediterranean region, mostly along the coast. It was known to the Romans and to the Greeks as sea cabbage and it was highly praised for its medicinal properties rather than for its culinary purposes.

The name cabbage comes from the Normanno-Picard name caboche, which meant head. Today, the largest cabbage production can be found in China, followed by India and Russia. It is used mostly for culinary purposes but with the on going natural plants revolution it has started to be used also for its’ health effects. The parts of the plant that are normally used for culinary purposes are the leaves, which make a great cabbage soup.

Eating cabbage health effects have begun to spread all over the world and specialists agreed that it is one of the healthiest and vitamin rich vegetable. The good news is that cabbage can be found all year long, it is very cheap and easy to cook. Not all people will enjoy cabbage meals at fist but in time, you will get used to this healthy vegetable.

It is considered a cancer inhibitor and it has been demonstrated that it kills certain viruses and bacteria. Cabbage produces many antibodies that definitely improve our immune system. As far as digestion is concerned, cabbage contains significant quantities of iron and sulphur. They are minerals that very much contribute and help with the digestion process.

Cabbage is highly recommended in weight-loss diets. It contains vitamin C that helps the body burn all the fat and vitamin D and A, which is very good for one’s skin, keeping it young and maintaining its’ vitality. Cabbage juice is used in order to treat ulcer patients and it is also very effect full in the treatment of fungus or infections.

The iodine in cabbage helps you maintain a proper muscle development and helps you build your muscle. The lactic acid contained by cabbage helps with the daily energy and it acts in order to disinfect the colon. Cabbage juice consumed daily can help treat headaches, bronchitis, asthma and all sort of digestive problems. Known as a detoxifying agent, cabbage increases the production of antioxidant through sulforaphane. Another important antioxidant found in red cabbage, anthocyanin, helps with the protection of brain cells and prevents people from Alzheimer's disease.
